| Slathia stresses promotion of rural industry for economic growth | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, January 18 – The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Labour and Employment, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia has said that the Government would focus on the development of rural areas and create employment opportunities for jobless rural youth in the industrial sector. While addressing a public meeting at Birpur and Smailpur in Vijaypur today, the Minister said that the rural areas are the real engines of growth and the Government is committed to remove the notion of urban bias and concentrate on development of rural areas on priority and special schemes for development of peripheral and remote areas would be taken up. The Minister said the people, especially weaker sections of the society, have many expectations from the new Government and every effort would be made to mitigate their problems in a phased manner. He maintained that administration would be fine tuned to make the delivery system more transparent so that common man feels a discernible change on the ground. He made it clear that justice would be done with all sections of the society and pace of development pursued more vigorously. Slathia assured the people of the area that all lanes and drains would be upgraded as pacca to provide modern civic facilities within a period of six months. He said teams of officers would visit every village to assess the situation and planning would be done on the basis of basic amenities required, like drinking water, medicare, road links, electricity and education. He said efforts would be made to identify more job opportunities in the industrial sector for the rural unemployed youth since there is great potential in the agro-based industry in the State. The Minister was accorded a rousing welcome amid drum beating at various places en route. He thanked the people for their wholehearted support in the elections. “You have done your duty, now this is my turn. I will work tirelessly round-the-clock and devote myself in the service of the people”, Mr. Slathia assured.
