DGPC demands suspension of Poonch SHO for torturing Sikh cop
6/5/2023 10:47:59 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 5: The President of DGPC Jammu, S Ranjeet Singh Tohra, along with Vice President S Balvinder Singh, Secretary S Surjit Singh, and Incharge Dharam Parchar Committee S Harjit Singh, strongly condemned the brutal torture of Sikh cop S Jagvinder Singh in Poonch by SHO Poonch Ranit Rao and PSI Arun Singh Andotra.
During a press conference, S Ranjeet Singh Tohra expressed great resentment and anguish over the misuse of power by police officers who are entrusted with implementing the law. He emphasized that such misconduct tarnishes the reputation of the entire police department. Tohra urged senior police officials to take immediate action by suspending both the accused officers to restore public confidence, especially among minority communities.
Vice President S Balvinder Singh, along with S Surjit Singh and S Harjit Singh, recounted the incident where Jagvinder Singh, while returning home after buying medicine for his ailing mother, witnessed a scuffle between two groups in the presence of the SHO and other police authorities. When questioned by the SHO about his presence there, Jagvinder explained his situation, but the SHO and PSI Arun Singh Andotra disregarded his response and started manhandling him. They then dragged him to the police station, despite Jagvinder's plea that he himself is a serving constable in the JK Police.
At the police station, the SHO and PSI subjected the victim to third-degree torture, brutally beating him and even using electric shocks from a teaser gun. It is important to note that Jagvinder Singh is a distinguished sports person in the field of Boxing, having won numerous medals at the state and national levels, bringing accolades to the JK Police and the state. This serious misconduct and abuse of authority by the SHO and PSI is a matter of grave concern.
DGPC Jammu strongly condemns the high-handed actions of these police officials and demands their immediate suspension. The organization.
