| Balbir joins PDP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 18: Despite being out of power, the Peoples Democratic Party is getting people in –latest is former legislator and once a senior Congress leader Thakur Balbir Singh. An organizational man of the Congress, Balbir Singh has won the 1996 assembly elections. He lost in 2002 and was denied ticket in 2008 elections. However, he contested the 2008 elections as an independent candidate. Welcoming Balbir Singh in his party at a simple function organized here today, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said that PDP has been emerging as biggest political force in the state and party would act as an effective opposition in the legislative assembly. He hoped that with Balbir Singh's joining PDP would be strengthened in Jammu region in general and Kathua district in particular. "Policies and programmes of the PDP are guided by the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir", he said. Addressing the function, Balbir Singh said that he is impressed by the pro-people policies of the PDP. He assured Mufti Mohammad Sayeed he would work hard to spread the message of PDP in every nook and corner of the State in general and Jammu region in particular. Balbir Singh joined PDP with hundreds of his supporters. Sudesh Kumar Sapolia, block president of Congress, 20 Sarpanches and over 100 delegates of Congress party today joined PDP in the presence of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
