| Mesmerizing Sitar recital at SaMaPa Aalap | | SaMaPa Aalap Festival enters day 11 | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 19- The 3rd Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ is spelling musical showers all around Jammu for the last 11 days. SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages presented Sitar recital by Ustad Saeed Zafar Khan at K.L. Saigal Hall here today. Conceived and directed by Abhay Rustum Sopori, SaMaPa Aalap Festival has attained the stature of the biggest and most prestigious music festival of not only the J&K State but also the Northern India region. Under the aegis of its Chairman – Santoor Legend and Composer Pandit Bhajan Sopori, holds a prestigious place in the world music scenario and is acclaimed as a cultural bridge of Jammu & Kashmir and rest of the country. An ‘A Grade’ artist of All India Radio, Ustad Saeed Zafar is a well known Sitar player of the country and belongs to Dilli Gharana. He mesmerized the audience with his Raagdari and beautiful blend of Tantrakari (instrumental) and Gayaki (vocal) Ang (techniques). The concert was specially conducted to benefit music students and was also attended by the students and staff of Institute of Music and Fine Arts. He presented three compositions in Raag Bhatiyar set to Vilambit Teentaal, Madhyalaya Ektaal and Drutlaya Teentaal. He concluded his recital with Raag Bairavi. The Sitarist explained the techniques of Sitar to the students. He was accompanied on Tabla by the eminent Tabla player Pt. Sarit Das, a disciple of Legendary Santoor Maestro and Composer Pt. Bhajan Sopori. The concert was dedicated to late Sh. Jitender Sharma, former Additional Secretary, J&K Academy who passed away this morning. Secretary Academy Zaffar Iqbal Manhas also spoke on the occasion and offered his condolences on the sad demise of Sharma. A two minute silence was observed in his memory. Eminent Santoor Maestro and Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori in his speech said that the SaMaPa Aalap festival is a great medium to widen the vision of music students and connoisseurs. He once again thanked the media for its immense support in reaching out at international level. Other dignitaries who graced the occasion included Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra (Musicologist and Critic) and Smt. Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary J&K Academy. |
