| DD Kashir to counsel youth for KAS in its new series | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Jan 19- The public broadcaster Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) Srinagar, has decided to telecast a series on providing counseling to the KAS aspirants during its phone-in- programme ‘Sitaroon Sey Aagey’ in order to encourage the youth especially Kashmiris to choose administrative services as a career option. The series titled 'administrative services as a career option' will highlight the pros and cons of the competitive exams with major focus on the KAS 2009 for which the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (PSC) has advertised 398 posts. "So far we have telecast four episodes of this series and the response of the viewers has been great. During the programmes we receive calls from all corners of the Valley where the KAS aspirants seek answer to their queries and suggestions from the panel of experts which comprises of reputed KAS officers," said a spokesman of the Kendra here on Monday. According to the officials at DDK Srinagar the aim of the series is to enhance the potential of the Kashmiri youth to participate in competitive exams like KAS and IAS "who most of the times miss the opportunity due to their pre-conceived liking for B.E and MBBS courses." "The main aim of the series is to arouse the interest of the Kashmiri youth to compete in the competitive exam which assures a promising career in administrative services and get rid of the fear psychosis among the Kashmiri youth towards such exams which is responsible for least representation of our educated youth in administrative setup," said Producer/Director of the programme Nazir Nazar. "However" Nazar added "It has also been disturbing to see that in most of the cases it is the parents and the pressure from peer group which compels a student to prepare for B.E and MBBS exams and less attention is paid towards IAS and KAS. This has been proved during the calls which we received in the live programme where most of the callers complained of pressure from their parents to prepare only for MBBS and B.E." He said that keeping in view the demand of the viewers the series would also include counseling sessions by former as well as present members of PSC and guiding tips by female KAS officers also as the participation of females in KAS has been least over the years. |
