| Employees toughening stand on Jan 28 strike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan19- Unhappy with the poor response of the newly elected coalition government towards demands of the state government employees over 4.5 lakh employees are gearing up to join an indefinite stir from January 28 , if the government failed to woo them. Addressing a largely attended media conference here in press club on Monday, one of the leaders of the employees joint action committee, Ram Kumar Sharma said, the new government in office had made a commitment to transfer the benefits of the sixth pay commission recommendations. The government had promised that soon after taking over the oath the decision on employees demands will be taken during the first cabinet meeting. Sharma said after taking over the chief minister had convened two cabinet meetings but their issue never came up for discussion. He alleged that the government was still searching for a way out and making statements saying that they are studying the financial implications of sixth pay commission recommendations. He said, "When government has agreed in principle to extend the benefits of the sixth pay commission and even the Governor NN Vohra during his rule in the state had made a commitment to resolve the issue why the popular government in office is taking such a long time in announcing the decision". Various other agitating employees’ leaders alleged that they have started doubting the intentions of the state government as they are only adopting wait and watch policy than doing anything substantive. Another employee leader said that if the state government failed to resolve the issue before January 27, the 4.5 lakh state government employees would launch an indefinite stir to press for their demands. "We are determined to take the fight to its logical conclusion and win the battle", he asserted. |
