| Gupta asks Govt. to clear its stand on employees’ demands | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 19- The BJP Legislators Party leader, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has asked the coalition Government to come out clearly on various issues confronting the people especially about the demand of the Government employees, who have threatened to come on the roads for redressal of their problems. Commenting upon the announcement by the leaders of the State employees to observe Hartal on January 28, to press their demands, Prof. Gupta said that it was strange that despite taking over reins of power about a fortnight back, the coalition Government did not take into account the problems of the employees. They have been agitating for implementation of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission for the past several months and the leaders of both the Congress and those of the National Conference had been promising during their electioneering that they would implement the recommendations of the Pay Panel after assuming the charge of the new Government but now they have gone mum leading to the mounting of discontent amongst the employees. In a statement issued today he recalled that last year when the State Budget was presented in the Assembly an impression was given that the recommendations of the Pay Panel would be implemented and adequate funds would be managed for the purpose. Even the Ghulam Nabi Azad led erstwhile Government before its disgraceful end, had been promising early implementation of the Pay Panel recommendations. There are several other issues which needed early attention of the Government including the heavy cuts in the supply of electricity and poor supplies of drinking water as also the paucity of rations at the depots, he added and further said that mere closing of eyes about the difficulties facing the people would not serve any purpose, the BJP leader added.. Stressing that elections were not held just to have new Ministers or Government but these meant in a democracy to provide succor to the suffering people and have a responsive dispensation, he said and hoped that the Government leaders would realize their responsibilities. |
