Jammu University hosts Yoga Workshop

JAMMU, June 12: In preparation for the upcoming International Yoga Day, the NSS Volunteers of Campus Unit-I, Faculty of Social Sciences and Arts, University of Jammu, collaborated with the Department of Economics to organize a Yoga Workshop. The event took place on June 12, 2023, as a part of the International Yoga Day celebrations. The primary objective of the workshop was to create awareness about the ancient and traditional practice of Yoga and its benefits in maintaining a healthy mind and body.
More than 40 NSS Volunteers from Campus Unit-I and students from the Department of Economics actively participated in the workshop. Dr. Ritu Chaku, Associate Professor of Yogic Science at Sharda School of Humanities and Social Science, Greater Noida, served as the special resource person for the workshop. Dr. Ritu provided a brief introduction to the meaning and significance of yoga in one's life. During the practical session, she guided the participants through nearly 14 different types of standing, sitting, and spine asanas, explaining the importance and benefits of each asana.
The event received support and guidance from Prof. Umesh Rai, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of NSS, University of Jammu. Prof. Rai commended the efforts of the NSS volunteers and congratulated them on the successful organization of the workshop. Prof. Savita Nayyar, Convenor of NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu, also extended her congratulations to the entire team and encouraged the students to continue practicing yoga for better physical and mental well-being.
Several faculty members from the Department of Economics were present, including Prof. Aroon Sharma, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Prof. Dipanker SenGupta, Prof. Falender K. Sudan, Prof. Prakash C. Antahal, Prof. Sunita Sharma, Prof. Virender Koundal, Dr. Manoj Bhatt, and Dr. Tsering Yangzom. The workshop's resource person was warmly welcomed by Prof. Virender Koundal, and a vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Sunita Sharma. The overall coordination of the event was led by Dr. Shallu Sehgal, NSS Programme Officer, Campus Unit-I, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Hema Gandotra, Coordinator of NSS Office, Programme Officers of all campus units, and heads of all departments of NSS Campus Unit-I for their support and encouragement.
