Early Times Report

Jammu, June 13: The second batch of Tawi Trekkers J&K, consisting of 43 students (including 18 girls from Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, two girls from Army Public School, Damana, and two girls from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Jammu), departed for Dharamshala to participate in the Dharamshala Himalayan Trekking Programme. The trekking club, led by Anil Goswami, former Home Secretary of the Government of India, organized the event. Accompanying the students were Sonam Sidharth and Suksham Verma, senior trekkers and club organizers, as well as four teachers from Oriental Academy Sr. Secondary School (Arvinder Kour, Jyoti, Sudesh Kumar, and Partap Singh) and a sports teacher from Army Public School, Damana (Anu Sharma).
Prior to the departure, Sourav Deep Singh, a trained mountaineer and senior club member, made all the necessary arrangements for boarding, lodging, and other logistics in the Chamunda and Macleodganj areas to ensure a smooth trekking experience.
The group was flagged off by Vivek Chauhan, Principal of Oriental Academy Sr. Secondary School, who advised the students to respect and cherish nature by keeping the campsite and trekking trail clean. He emphasized the importance of not littering with wrappers of chocolates, toffees, biscuits, etc., which would be provided to them during the trek. Ram Khajuria, President, and Shawetica Khajuria, General Secretary of Tawi Trekkers J&K, were also present during the flag-off ceremony.
Meanwhile, the first group of trekkers from St. Xavier Sr. Sec. School, Barnai, Jammu, has returned after an exhilarating trek in the mighty Dhauladhars. They also had the opportunity to visit a sprawling tea garden and a tea manufacturing company, where they learned about the entire tea production process.
The Dharamshala Himalayan Trekking Programme is being organized in collaboration with J&K State Sports Council, Mountaineering Association of J&K, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu, Adventure Holidays India, Jammu, and Northernland Hikes, Jammu.
Tawi Trekkers J&K is a voluntary, non-profit sports and social service organization, dedicated to promoting the spirit of adventure and love for nature among people from all walks of life, without any discrimination based on color, caste, or creed.
The next group, comprising students from Aryan Oriental Convent Sr. Secondary School, Udhampur, will commence their trek on June 1, 202
