Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, June 14: As part of the Azadi Ka Amrut kaal programs during India's G20 presidency, and to raise awareness against drugs under the Nashamukt Campus for Nashamukt Bharat Abhiyaan, as well as promote FIT India, a blood donation camp and poster making event were organized by 2nd JK Girls Bn GDC Udhampur in collaboration with Command Hospital (Northern Command) Udhampur. This initiative was coordinated with 2 J&K Boys Bn and the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of the College, in commemoration of World Blood Donor Day, under the patronage of Principal Prof. Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta.
The blood donation camp took place at Command Hospital Northern Command premises CH (NC) from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A contingent of 37 blood volunteers from GDC Udhampur, divided into two batches, was flagged off from the college by the Principal. The camp witnessed a good turnout, with 30 volunteers donating blood, while the remaining volunteers were registered with the Command Blood Centre for future donations as needed.
The objective of the blood donation camp was to highlight this year's World Blood Donor Day campaign with the theme "Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often," and encourage voluntary blood donation. The camp was inaugurated by Maj Gen Avinash Das, Comdt, CH (NC), along with Brig S. K. Kaushik, Dy Comdt, CH (NC), and Brig M. K. Sebastian, PM, CH (NC). They were warmly welcomed by Lt Col. Harleen Chopra, Offg HOD, Dept of Lab. Sciences and Molecular Diagnostics, followed by an introduction parade of the cadets and a brief tour of the camp arrangements conducted by Maj Prachi Nichat, OIC Blood Centre.
As part of the donor day campaign, a slogan writing competition was held, with thirteen participants displaying their slogan posters at the camp site. The posters were judged by Lt Col Harleen Kour and Major Prachi, with cadet Vinay Kumar winning the first prize, cadet Bhawani securing the second prize, and cadet Reeta Devi receiving the third prize. All other participants in the slogan writing competition were awarded consolation prizes. The Chief Guest congratulated the voluntary donors, encouraged others to follow their example, and highlighted the importance of blood donation, eligibility criteria, and the health benefits associated with it.
Later, Dr. Romesh Kumar Gupta, the Principal of the College, distributed blood donation certificates to the donors. He expressed his appreciation to the cadets, ex-cadets, and members of the college Red Ribbon Club for their commitment to donating blood and becoming lifesavers. He advised the young donors to spread the message about voluntary blood donation and its significance among the masses. Dr. Gupta also shared that World Blood Donor Day is celebrated annually on June 14th to express gratitude to selfless blood donors worldwide. He congratulated the coordinators Prof. (Captain) Shivani Sharma, Associate NCC Officer, and Prof Jawaid Sarver, Convener of the Red Ribbon Club at GDC Udhampur, for the successful organization of the blood donation camp. The function concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Jawaid Sarver.
