| Crime Branch running marathon against criminals | | Latest: Smuggling rung busted, sapphire worth Rs 20 lakhs recovered | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Jan 19: Apparently on a marathon against the criminals of all hues, the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police today claimed yet another success by busting gang of notorious sapphire smugglers. Giving details, Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch, SM Sahai said that on receipt of a specific information a team of the Crime Branch was constituted under the charge of Ashok Singh Chib, Deputy SP Crime under the supervision of his and J.P. Singh, SSP Crime. He said that after investigation, the team arrested one Surjit Singh son of Bhuri Singh, a resident of Kundal Paddar, District Kishtwar, who is also an employee of the Sheep Husbandry Department. He was arrested along with four pieces of freshly extracted Paddar sapphire valuing Rs. 10-15 lakhs approximately. On his sustained questioning, he disclosed that he is indulging in this trade in connivance with some Government officials entrusted with the extraction and protection from the government sapphire mines in Paddar. He further disclosed that he has already smuggled some more Sapphire extracted of Paddar and delivered it to one Ashwani Kumar son of Gurbax Raj, a resident of Kucha Kaka Ram, Pacca Danga, Jammu. On his disclosure a raid was conducted at the residence of the Ashwani Kumar and three more pieces of Sapphire along with huge quantity of rough, raw and unfinished Sapphire was recovered valuing more than Rs. 20.00 lacs. A case FIR NO. 4 of 2009 stands registered in Crime Branch, Jammu and the investigation has been taken up vigoursly. Earlier also the Crime Branch, Jammu has achieved in un-earthed a case of Black Marketing of K.oil Fake Appointment cases and Misappropriation of Government Funds in R.T.O office, Jammu. It may be recalled here that the Crime Branch Jammu constituted teams of officers on October 26, 2008 and conducted raids through out night on national highway from Jhajjar Kotli to Tikri with the help of Local Police. The depots which looked like tea stalls, normal shops from out side but inside huge quantity of pilfiraged K.Oil in barrels and steel tanks. 75000 ltrs. Of illegal diverted K.oil kept for the purpose of black marketing was found dumped. In another case, Crime Branch Jammu recovered four Antique pieces of Sapphire weighing about 1kg including idols one of Radha and Krihana one Shiv Ling, one Statue of Bhagwan Mahavir and one ornamental pendent carved out nature Blue sapphire alongwith some Antique coins from the possession of accused persons namely Subash Chander Jain S/o Payara Lal R/o Jain Bazar, Chander Kumar S/o Ram Lal R/o Khadak Panja Kala Kot Rajouri Jaffar Hussain Ganie S/o Ab. Hamid Ganie and Subash Chander Saraf S/o Chuni Lal R/o Talab Tillo Jammu. The value of seized items in the international market is more than 10 crores. Recently a special team of Crime Branch Jammu headed by Addl. SP Crime Branch Jammu raided the office of R.T.O Jammu on 10.01.2009 and seized in discriminated documents such as registration certificate/permit etc ad also arrested 7 agents and R.T.O official in the instant case. Crime Branch Jammu arrested 4 accused persons namely Kamal Singh, Manohar Lal, Darshan Lal and Jasbir Singh, cheating/defrauding innocent civilians of lacs of Rupees of their hard earned money during a crack down on their make shift office in Prayed ground Jammu on 15.01.2008 and recovered amount to the tune of Rs. 2.40 lacs from there possession. |
