DIG Manhas discusses Police fest arrangements

Jammu January 20- A day-long Police Public Mela is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association at Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground, Jammu on February 8, 2009. The mela will start at 10 a.m. and conclude at 5 p.m. The mela will be open for the general public as well.

Arrangements for the mela were finalized at a meeting chaired by the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu Range, Mr. Abdul Qayoom Manhas here today. It was decided that various police establishments, government departments and private concerns would set up their stalls depicting the headway in various sectors in development. They would put up their products for exhibition and sale purposes for the general public during the mela on concessional rates.

Deputy Inspector General of Police impressed upon all the police officers for coordinating efforts to make the event a grand success. He enquired about the boarding and lodging facilities for stall holders and was informed about the arrangements made for their stay etc. He issued on-the-spot instructions to make fool proof security arrangements in and around the venue, drinking facilities, electric supply, and also regulate the traffic and parking arrangements.

Giving the details, Mr. Manhas said that to make the mela more attractive for general public who had shown keen interest in previous melas since last more than a decade, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Wives Welfare Association has decided this time to enhance the total number of different prizes up to 4509.

Elaborating the main objectives of the Mela, the Deputy Inspector General of Police said that in this mega event other highlights include Raffle Draw, stalls of kashmiri embroidery, jewelery, cosmetics, chinese furniture, ladakhi carpets, phulkari work, walnut and willow furniture, stationery and books, tambola, Kitchen ware, rides and jhullas, lucky dip, cold drinks, veg and non veg eatables and magic show and various entertainment programmes.

The meeting was informed that the raffle draw tickets have already been made available for sale purposes through various police establishments viz Police range headquarters, district SSPs Offices, SDPOs Offices, police stations, police posts and IRP battalions across the State.

The meeting also decided that raffle draw for fabulous prizes would be conduced at 4 p.m. sharp and small children would be drawn from the audience present on the occasion to draw the raffle draw numbers for prizes of different categories and would be handed over to the prize winners on-the-spot on production of original tickets.

Among others the meeting was attended by AIG(Provision) PHQ, Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari, AIG (Welfare) PHQ, Dr. S.P. Koshal, Commandant IRP 3rd Bn. Mrs. Manju Rashid, Commandant IRP 11th Bn. Mr. Shafakat Ali Watali, SSP Jammu. Mr. Manohar Singh and other police officers.
