| Peerzada visits book exhibition at SPMR School | | | Early Times Report JAMMU JANUARY 20-Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Syeed Tuesday said that it was mandatory for parents to inculcate in their children reading habits as it would help them to enrich their knowledge and also armour them with a sense of self belief and confidence. He said that books were fathomless oceans of knowledge from which every sensible individual should drink deep. He further said that he wonders how internet and other computer technology can prove to be an alternative to books when it comes to learning facts. The Minister accompanied by Secretary, School Education Mr. G. A. Peer, Director, School Education Jammu Mrs. Zahida Khan and a host of other officers from education department and staff of Shri Pratap Singh Memorial School Jammu, today visited a book exhibition held at SPMR School. This exhibition was organized by Directorate of School Education Jammu. The Minister appreciated the collection of books available on various stalls in the exhibitions. The exhibition showcased books on Education, Teacher Training, Science and Technology, Accounting, Governance, Personality development, Water management, Fisheries, Planning, besides books on literature, history, philosophy and on other aspects. Peerzada lamented the fact, that a serious trend of using other means of getting facts other than reading books, has developed among the younger generation and asserted that there can be no alternative to books. Earlier, the Director School Education Jammu Mrs. Zahida Khan highlighted the importance of books and said that writing and reading books was central to India’s intellectual ethos and recalled the great books penned down on law, medicine, philosophy, history, literature and astronomy by the writers of the nation.
