Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 20- The traders of Jammu city took out a protest rally against the frequent power cuts and burnt effigy of Power Development Department.
The Old Hospital Road Traders Association and other associations of Jammu city today took out a huge rally which after passing through various roads of city culminated at City Chowk where the effigy of PDD was torched.
While addressing the protestors on this occasion, Yudhvir Sethi said that the department has imposed power curtailment of 13 hours in Jammu city which gives a feeling that the government was adopting a revenge taking approach towards the Jammuites who displayed splendid unity during the 62 day agitation last year.
He said that department was demanding heavy amounts from poor consumers whose electronic meters got damaged during the agitation. He said the long power curtailments have added problems to the already suffering people.
"Not only the students, housewives and patients but the power curtailment has badly affected the traders, industrialists and small scale industries," he said and added that power curtailment is also a security threat as the anti-national elements can give effects to their designs with ease in darkness.
Yudhvir Sethi demanded immediate change in the present policy of the PDD of curtailment and ensuring regular supply of electricity to the consumers.
Bittu Pardhan, Anil Masoom, Surinder Choudhary, Dhan Swaroop, Vijay Mehra, Rinku, Vikrant Singh, Anil Gupta, Kuldeep Anand, Arun Sethi, Joginder and Parvesh Kashyap were prominent among those who took part in the protest demonstration.
