| NCSU for Central University status to JU | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20- Hailing Vice Chancellor, Professor Varun Sahni for taking up the issue of granting Central University status to University of Jammu, National Conference Student Union (NCSU) has said that it would approach Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his support to take up the issue with the Central government for the purpose. A meeting of the National Conference Student Union was held here today at University Campus under the chairmanship of its Campus president Irfan Qureshi where the issue of granting Central University status to University of Jammu was discussed. Vice Chancellor, Professor Varun Sahni during meeting with Chancellor NN Vohra had made a strong plea for granting the Central University to the University of Jammu, as it had all the ingredients required for such a varsity. Addressing the members, the President NCSU said that the way the Vice Chancellor University of Jammu Prof. Varun Sahni has raised the issue of granting Central University status to the University of Jammu with Chancellor during a meeting at JU, is a welcome step and it is the duty of all the Jammu University family to raise their voices at different quarters to this demand. "University of Jammu during the last few years has achieved international recognition. The Varsity has excelled in building infrastructure, research as well as curricular activities," Irfan said adding that the faculty of the varsity is one of the best faculties in India and if Central University is granted anywhere separately it will damage the University of Jammu badly. He further said that the Union would take up the matter with the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and seek his support for the purpose. Members who attended the meeting include Vijay Sharma, Vakil Singh, Sikander Hussian Shah, Tariq Mehmeed and Ajay Kumar
