| Enchanting rhythm, music at SaMaPa Aalap | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 20- The 12th day of 3rd Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ witnessed enchanting presentations here today SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages presented concerts at two venues. The morning session was held at K.L. Saigal Hall where Pt. Vijay Shankar Mishra presented a special talk cum concert with the theme – Laya and Taal in Indian classical music. Pt. Mishra is a renowned musicologist and music critic of the country and is acclaimed for his research on the history of Tabla. He has various publications and book to his credit. He demonstrated various patterns of Taal, Laya, Theka, etc. To build confidence and refinement in young students, he invited students of Institute of Music and Fine Arts to play with him namely Rakesh Kumar, Sunny Kumar, Neha Talwar and Akash Maan. The lec-dem was very beneficial for the music students. It was followed by question-answer session. The concert was attended various music connoisseurs, students and staff of IMFA. Dignitaries who graced the occasion included eminent Santoor Maestro and Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori, Savita Bakshi, Additional Secretary J&K Academy and Abhinay Kemu Principal IMFA. At the second venue at Government MAM College, Vidushi Uma Garg presented classical vocal recital. Born into a family of musicians Uma Garg is a renowned classical vocalist. Her presentations represent a unique blend of various Gharanas embellished with her individualistic style. She is equally versatile in various light classical and light music styles. She presented various Bandishes (compositions) in Bada and Chota Khayal in Raag Multani, Raag Puriya Kalyan and Raag Nayaki Kanadha followed by Thumri in Raag Misha Khamaj and Dadra. She concluded her recital with Mira Bhajan. She was accompanied on Tabla by Sachin Sharma. The concert was attended by Abhay Rustum Sopori, M.S. Baloria, Principal MAM College, Kailash Mehra, Pt. Vijay Mishra, Pt. Sarit Das and students and staff of the college. Zeenat Khan was the compare of the concert. Abhay Rustum Sopori in his speech encouraged the young students to come forward and take music as their career. He said that the SaMaPa is giving platform to many young musicians from the State who are earning their name in music. He also stressed on the need of heavy participation of young students in music concerts.
