Dr. B. N. Tripathi assumes charge as vice-chancellor of SKUAST Jammu

Jammu, June 20: Dr. B. N. Tripathi has taken over the position of Vice-Chancellor at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) of Jammu. This appointment follows the communication from the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat, Jammu and Kashmir, Raj Bhavan, Srinagar, bearing No. LGS-3(Appt-VC)AUJ/2010/1641-45 dated May 19, 2023.
Dr. B. N. Tripathi, born on July 20, 1962, is a distinguished scholar in the field of veterinary science. He graduated from Veterinary College, Mathura, CSA University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur (now DUVASU) in 1984. He obtained his M.V.Sc and Ph.D. from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar (UP) in 1987 and 1990, respectively. Prior to assuming the role of Vice-Chancellor at SKUAST Jammu, Dr. B. N. Tripathi served as the Deputy Director General (Animal Science) at ICAR, New Delhi, since January 30, 2020.
Upon taking charge as Vice-Chancellor, Dr. B. N. Tripathi held a meeting with the statutory officers of the university to assess the ongoing activities in the fields of teaching, research, and extension. He emphasized the importance of skill development among students and shared his vision for the comprehensive development of the university, aiming to make SKUAST Jammu a vibrant institution with a global impact.
Dr. Tripathi expressed his dedication to promoting teaching, research, extension, and the global perception of the university. He emphasized the transformation of students’ capabilities into skilled and knowledgeable manpower with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship development in agriculture and allied sectors. His goal is to contribute to the self-reliant economy of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dr. B. N. Tripathi has an illustrious academic and professional career, including a post-doctorate from the Institute of Animal Health, Compton (UK) in 1998-99 and a visiting scientist position at Moredun Research Institute, Edinburgh in 2003-04. He has received several international travel fellowships and grants, recognizing his contributions to the field of veterinary science. With over 32 years of experience, including 13 years in administrative roles, Dr. Tripathi has made significant contributions to various national and international institutes.
Dr. Tripathi is a distinguished fellow of numerous science academies and societies, including The Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath), London, UK, and the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FNAAS). He has published numerous research papers, books, manuals, technical bulletins, and policy papers, demonstrating his expertise and commitment to advancing the field of veterinary science. Notably, he has contributed to the development of vaccines for animal coronaviruses and lumpy skin disease in cattle.
With the appointment of Dr. B. N. Tripathi as Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu can look forward to further growth and development under his leadership, with a focus on academic excellence, research innovation, and the overall progress of the university.
