Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 20: The Department of Environmental Sciences at the University of Jammu recently arranged a stimulating three-day "Educational Trip to the Udhampur-Dudu-Basantgarh-Ramnagar Circuit." The aim was to provide students with an opportunity to delve into the local natural heritage and bridge the gap between practical knowledge and classroom learning. Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Head of the Department, inaugurated the trip and highlighted its alignment with the department's objective of connecting students with their regional environment to enrich their academic experience.
During the excursion, the students embarked on a trek through verdant forests, streams, and meadows to reach the picturesque Shiv Gali Peak in Basantgarh. Along the Dudu-Basantgarh circuit, they encountered traditional springs, diverse vegetation, and ancient structures of archaeological significance. Dr. Deepika Slathia, the teacher in charge of the trip, emphasized the importance of preserving and showcasing Dogra architecture from architectural and cultural perspectives. She also underscored the significance of conserving the area's traditional water bodies.
Furthermore, the students engaged with the local community to raise awareness about the importance of conserving the region's flora, fauna, cultural heritage, and springs. They also had the opportunity to visit protected monuments, including the Sheesh Mahal in Ramnagar. This historical royal mansion, constructed by Raja Ram Singh in 1885, featured ornate walls adorned with exquisite murals and paintings depicting stories from Indian epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana.
The Edu-trip provided valuable exposure for the students, enabling them to practically apply their literary theory knowledge by visiting ecological and archaeological hotspots in the Jammu region. Dr. Rakesh Kumar and more than thirty post-graduate students from the department enthusiastically participated in this enlightening experience.
