| BJP, Panthers undecided on Rajya Sabha polls | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 20- The BJP and the Panthers Party have not yet decided whether they plan to field party candidates for the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections. The leaders of the two parties have not been able to evolve a strategy which could help them in preventing the NC-Congress alliance from winning all the four seats. Elections are to be held for filling four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir. Since three separate notifications have been issued the NC-Congress alliance, which has about 50 MLAs, including couple independent members and those belonging to the Democratic Pary, CPIM and Peoples Democratic Forum, has a chance of winning at least three seats. As far as the fourth seat is concerned the PDP with 21 MLAs can win it provided it gets support from other parties. BJP President Ashok Khajuria today said "we have not yet decided anything. We may finalize our strategy within a couple of days." Asked why should not the BJP either seek support from the PDP and lend support to it which could easily help the two parties to win one seat easily he said "senior party leaders will meet and discuss the matter. I cannot say anything about it at the moment." The leader of the Panthers Party, Harsh Dev Singh, said "we have not decided anything yet. We shall sit and discuss whether we field a candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat or support a candidate from other parties or stay away from the poll process." Asked whether the Panthers Party, who has three MLAs, support the BJP if it fields a candidate Harsh Dev said "I cannot say anything. The party leaders will discuss various avenues that are open for us."
