J&K National Conference to expose LG-led misrule
6/20/2023 10:32:54 PM
Early Times Report
LAKHANPUR, June 20: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference initiated its campaign for the upcoming Urban Local Body (ULB) polls in the state with a day-long convention at Lakhanpur, the gateway of Jammu and Kashmir.
During the gathering, Rattan Lal Gupta, senior NC leader and Provincial President Jammu, expressed concerns about the democratic deprivation faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir under Central rule for the past five years, marking the second-longest presidential rule in the country since independence. He highlighted the absence of Assembly elections for over five years, which hampers the democratic process and denies the people their right to choose their own representatives, leading to disillusionment and instability.
Rattan Lal raised serious concerns regarding the statements made by the Union Minister for Housing about industrial development, investment, and job creation in J&K.
He urged the central government to provide concrete figures on the number of industries established, investment received, and jobs generated in the UT, emphasizing the need for factual information rather than circumstantial statements.
He criticized the rising unemployment under Prime Minister Modi's leadership and the contradictory statements made by his ministers, urging the BJP government to ensure their ministers refrain from sharing misleading information that embarrasses the party's high command.
Rattan Lal questioned the effectiveness of the Smart City project in Jammu, highlighting issues such as flooding in designated Smart City areas during a single hour of rain. He also criticized the monologue by LG Sinha under the guise of "Awaam Ki Awaz," pointing out that people are more concerned with the government-created problems such as inflation, joblessness, water shortages, and irregular electricity supply, as well as the issue of regularizing daily wage workers.
The senior NC leader assured the people that if the party is voted to power in the upcoming ULB elections, it will roll back the undemocratic imposition of property tax without consulting elected ULB representatives. He called on the people to support the party for the welfare of the common masses.
During the convention, the problems faced by the people of Kathua district, including the lack of basic amenities like power, drinking water, healthcare facilities, dilapidated roads, and shortage of government ration, were presented to the senior party members.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness among the masses about the upcoming elections and encourage active participation in the electoral process.
Prominent party members, including Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary JKNC Jammu, and Vijay Lochan P.P SC cell, emphasized the need to support and strengthen Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah.
They also addressed issues such as youth unemployment and the neglect of scheduled caste and depressed classes under the LG's regime.
The meeting was attended by various party leaders and district representatives, who actively participated in discussing the challenges faced by the people.
