| MIET students excel at national level, bring laurels to state | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Jan 20- Students of the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) have excelled in varied events and activities at the National / State level and have brought laurels to the Institute and the University of Jammu. Priyanka Salathia, student of 5th Semester Computer Science and Engineering who led the Hand Ball Team of the University of Jammu to Kolkata during October last reached Quarter Finals of the event which is extremely creditable. Yudhvir Singh of Electrical Engineering led the Cricket Team (under Ninteen) of J&K State in the North Zone matches won the man of series award and the team won the runners up title in the tournament. Vikrant Joshi of MCA department represented J&K State in 3rd Poomsae National Tae Kwondo Championship - 2008 held at Bangalore. By his sheer dint of hard work, he has also qualified as a National Referee by clearing National Referee Test. He refereed the National Tae Kwondo Championship -2008 held at Jullandhar. He now has his aim set on becoming an International referee. Shivani Hans of MCA department represented J&K State in the Senior National Fencing Championship – 2008 held at Imphal, Manipur. In Wrestling, Akshey Sharma of Electrical Engineering represented the J&K Wrestling Team in the Heavy Weight Category in the Senior National Wrestling Championship – 2008 held at Ayodhya. Earlier he represented Jammu University and secured fifth position in the All India Inter University Tournament. In Table Tennis too, Vikrant Joshi of Electronics and Communication represented the University of Jammu at the North-Zone Inter-University Table Tennis Championship. In addition, students of MIET have been participating at various educational and technical festivals in other reputed universities of the country. Fortyseven students took part in the Tech Fest “Thomso” held at I.I.T Roorkee. Mr. Abhimanyu Sharma, Arpan and Sumit Radotra of 7th Semester, Computer Science Department got the third prize in Newsmaking event. Similarly at the Tech Fest “Oasis” held at BITS Pilani, six students took part and were the runner up in Quiz Competition. It is the endeavour of the MIET management to encourage students to participate in such National events to gain valuable exposure and experiences. Congratulating all the winners and participants in various events, Dr Arun K. Gupta, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions, appreciated the efforts put in by the students in achieving spectacular results in both sports and extra/co-curricular activities. Dr Renu Gupta, Director MIER Group assured that all the opportunities will be provided to the students so that they can excel at the National level. Principal, MIET Prof. S.K Sharma also congratulated the students on their achievements.
