DIG Traffic reviews arrangements for Yatra, tourist season

JAMMU, June 21: The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Traffic Range in Jammu, Shridhar Patil, IPS, held a meeting at the Range Police Headquarters to review the traffic police arrangements for the ongoing tourist season and the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. The meeting was attended by several officials, including SSP Traffic NHW Ramban, Rohit Baskotra, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, Vinay Kumar, SSP Traffic City Jammu, Mohd. Faisel Qureshi, Raj Paul, Additional SP Traffic City Jammu, and Deputy Superintendents from all Traffic Units in Traffic Range Jammu.
During the meeting, the officers shared feedback and discussed plans to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. SSPs Traffic from all traffic units were instructed to provide detailed traffic arrangements for their respective jurisdictions, including night duty shifts, to ensure the successful and organized conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. The DIG Traffic Jammu also directed the SSP Traffic City Jammu to ensure that traffic police personnel are deployed at the base camp well in advance of the yatra convoys, and they remain on duty until late evening. Shift duty may be implemented if necessary to ensure the alertness and active presence of the traffic personnel.
The DIG Traffic Jammu emphasized the need to take strict action against overloaded vehicles and those without fitness certificates. He urged all SSPs to upgrade communication systems and Traffic Control Units (TCUs) to facilitate a quick and reliable information management system for sharing information with the public. Additionally, he encouraged the use of Public Announcement (PA) systems installed in officers' vehicles to guide and assist tourists and yatris. The DIG Traffic Jammu emphasized the importance of devising a mechanism for the movement of light motor vehicles (LMVs) and heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) on the National Highway in a way that avoids congestion at any point.
In conclusion, all the officers were advised to brief the officers and personnel deployed during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra to remain proactive and assist the yatris in their respective areas of responsibility.
