NC, PDP desperate to make a comeback
6/23/2023 10:51:28 PM
As the forthcoming parliamentary polls draw near, the political climate in India is charged with anticipation and strategizing.
A meeting convened by the opposition parties in Patna to chart out their strategies for the upcoming elections indicates that all the parties want to put up a united front in 2024 Parliamentary elections.
Notably, the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Kashmir attended the gathering. However other Kashmir-based political parties opted to stay away.
The presence of the NC and PDP at the Patna meeting underscores the need for the leaders of these parties to make their presence felt at the national level. As both the parties are aware that post abrogation of Article 370 political scenario in J&K has changed completely.
Their participation in this meeting signifies that they are ready to forge an alliance at any level to make a comeback.
While the NC and PDP attended the Patna meeting, other Kashmir-based political parties stayed away. The absence of other parties indicates that they don’t want to align with the opposition parties at the national level.
The NC and PDP are aware that whenever the assembly elections are held in J&K both these parties won’t find it easy to regain their lost ground as the parties like Apni Party, Peoples Conference and other regional parties can give a tough competition.
The NC and PDP’s decision to attend the Patna meeting is also an indication that both the parties want to be allies.
The divergence among Kashmir-based political parties in their stance towards attending the Patna meeting may stem from varying regional priorities and ideologies. NC and PDP putting up a united front is a sign that both the traditional parties of Kashmir have understood that nothing would be offered to them in a platter and they will have to work hard, and develop comprehensive strategies that encompass both local and national concerns.
The decision of the NC and PDP to attend the Patna meeting is an attempt to send a message that both these parties do exist and they want elections to be held with or without J&K’s statehood being restored. They want someone to come for their rescue so that they reappear on the scene.
