RAJOURI, June 26: NCC (SD/SW) and NSS Units of Govt. Post Graduate College, Rajouri, organized a massive event on Menace of Drug Abuse among the Youth in collaboration with District Administration Rajouri under the guidance of Principal, Dr. (Prof) Shamim Ahmed Azad .The event started with a brief introduction about the ill effects of drug menace on the society by NCC Officer Boys Wing Major Tanveer Ahmed. Prof Salma Farooq, NCC Officer Girls Wing highlighted the role of NCC cadets and NSS Volunteers in wiping out the menace of drug addiction from the society for a healthy and prosperous Nation and the strategies to curb the temptation of getting addicted to this social evil.
NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and the students of the college participated in a massive rally starting from the DAK Bangalo, Rajouri upto the Gujjar Mandi chanting the slogans like "Say No to Drugs, say Yes to Life", Make Rajouri Drugs Free", "Addiction is a disease , not a choice", etc. The rally was joined by the officers from other departments like Social welfare, students from various schools of district Rajouri, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers and various eminent persons of Civil society, etc.
While speaking to the media, Dr Naseem A Malik, NSS Officer deliberated upon the role of educational institutions in educating the youth about the dreadful effects of consuming drugs. Dr. Shamim Akhter, NSS Programme Officer stressed on the need of having methodological ways of curbing the menace. Major Tanveer Ahmed, NCC Officer led the rally along with the other participants and guided the cadets about their role in social service and how to inculcate constructive lifestyles that discourage drug use. At the end of the event, the NCC cadets and NSS volunteers were administered a pledge to make the society drug free.
Principal, Govt. P G College, Rajouri, Dr. (Prof.) Shamim Ahmed Azad congratulated both the NCC and NSS Units and appreciated the efforts of District Administration in making Rajouri "drug-free" and stressed on the need of organizing such events to create awareness among the youth.
