Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 26: An international documentary on Pain and Palliative Care Services in Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu was conducted by Michelle Chua, the Executive Producer of LIEN Foundation (Lien Centre for Palliative Care) and APHN (Asian Pacific Hospice And Palliative Care Network) from Singapore, along with her team of three other members. The documentary shoot was part of a BBC initiative under the guidance of Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar, HOD Onco-Anaesthesia, Pain & Palliative Care at AIIMS New Delhi. The documentary, consisting of six episodes of thirty minutes each, will be telecasted globally.
During the shoot, the team also conducted a photo shoot of other areas of the hospital. They were accompanied by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Sharma, Director of Health Services Jammu, and Dr. Parveen Yograj, Medical Superintendent of Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu. The team interacted with the patients admitted in the Palliative Care ward of the hospital, capturing their experiences and the care provided to them.
An interactive and introductory session was organized by Dr. Rohit Lahori, an Interventional Pain and Palliative Care Specialist and Nodal Officer of the National Programme for Palliative Care. Dr. Lahori presented the achievements of the Palliative Care Department at Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar and other hospitals in the Jammu Division. The visiting team also conducted home visits to far-flung areas of the Jammu division, where they met patients and their caregivers. They inquired about the Pain and Palliative Care services available to them and the availability of opioids for managing pain associated with terminal illnesses. These interactions and visits were included as part of the LIEN documentary.
It is worth mentioning that Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu was the first hospital in Jammu and Kashmir to initiate Palliative Care services. Additionally, it is the only District Hospital in Northern India selected as a center for the ICMR Project (Hand holding for Palliative Care) among the top ten Premier Hospitals of Northern India. The documentary aims to showcase the efforts and achievements of the Palliative Care Department at the hospital, highlighting the importance of such services in providing care and support to patients with terminal illnesses.
