Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 27: NSS Unit of GDC Samba, in collaboration with Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan Committee and District Social Welfare Office, organized a series of events on the International Day of Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2023 under the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav from June 26th to June 27th. The aim of these events was to create awareness and educate students about the significant impact of drugs on physical, mental, and social well-being.
The events encompassed a diverse range of activities designed to engage students and foster meaningful conversations about the perils of drug abuse. On the first day, Abishek Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Samba, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The program commenced with a formal welcome to the Chief Guest and other esteemed guests. College students, namely Ravinder Singh, Sadhana Kumari, and Nikhil Singh, shared their opinions, emphasizing the urgency and importance of eradicating drug abuse from college campuses.
A thought-provoking interactive session equipped students with practical tools and knowledge to resist peer pressure, cope with stress, and enhance their overall well-being. A pledge-taking ceremony, signature campaign, and a walkathon from the DC Office to Chichi Mata were also organized, which received enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and esteemed guests.
On the second day, a creative awareness campaign on drug abuse took center stage, featuring a skit performance and the screening of a short movie titled "Nasha Seher Kasba." This campaign effectively conveyed the harmful effects of drug abuse while promoting a culture of compassion, empathy, and support for those affected.
The events concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony, where Prof. Shobha Gupta and senior faculty members felicitated the students for their performances. Dr. Twinkle Suri, the Principal of the college, expressed her views on the significance of observing Anti-Drugs Day 2023, endorsing the cause of the celebration. The entire event was conceived and executed by Dr. Joginder Singh, Convenor of NCOD, and Dr. Geeta Lakhotra, NSS Programme Officer.
