Community outreach programme on international day against drug abuse held in Dollian village

JAMMU, June 27: The NSS unit and Population Club of Dogra College of Education, guided by IQAC, organized a Community Outreach Programme on the occasion of the "International Day Against Drug Abuse", in Dollian Village, Bari Brahmana. The programme included an Awareness Lecture on the theme "People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention." Sarika Kumari, Convener of the Population Club, Dogra College of Education, served as the resource person.
During the lecture, Sarika Kumari discussed various intoxicants such as Alcohol, Nicotine, and Caffeine, highlighting their effects on the present generation. She also shed light on different categories of illicit drugs, including depressants, stimulants, hallucinogens, and synthetic drugs, emphasizing the damage they cause to the mind and body. The resource person raised awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and emphasized the need to reduce the demand for drugs and combat substance abuse, which affects individuals, families, and society at large.
The awareness lecture was attended by 50 members of Dollian village, including approximately 40 student teachers and 10 NSS volunteers. Prof. Darshana Sharma, Director of Dogra Group of Colleges, extended congratulations to the Programme Officer NSS and the Convener of the Population Club for organizing such valuable Community Outreach Programmes for the welfare of society. Dr. Vikesh Kumar Sharma, Principal of Dogra College of Education, appreciated the student teachers for their efforts in organizing the awareness programme.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Shivangi Dhrora, expressing gratitude to the speaker for delivering a thought-provoking lecture and the local community for their active participation in the programme.
