Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 27: Sangam Tru Art Production, in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages (JKAACL) Jammu, organized Nukkad Natak shows on Anti-Drug Day 2023 at Janipur Park & Patoli Park Jammu. The program aimed to observe "Anti-Drug Day-2023." The program was inaugurated by Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Senior Drama Instructor at JKAACL. Specially prepared Nukkad Natak performances on the theme "NASHA NAI KARO" received high appreciation from the audience and guests, serving as an effective means of raising awareness.
The chief guest praised the efforts of the organizers in making such awareness programs colorful and impactful. He highlighted that the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is observed on June 26 each year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a drug-free world. This year's campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of treating people who use drugs with respect and empathy, providing evidence-based, voluntary services, offering alternatives to punishment, prioritizing prevention, and leading with compassion.
The United Nations General Assembly designated June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in 1987, aiming to support efforts to create a drug-free society. By spreading awareness about drug abuse, it is possible to prevent individuals from succumbing to dangerous substances.
Romesh Chander, President of STAP, delivered a welcome speech, emphasizing the significance of this day. He mentioned that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime utilizes this commemorative day to highlight the dangers of drug use and the illicit trade, providing educational materials to teachers and public officials worldwide to promote understanding of the cultural and economic harm caused by the drug trade. The campaign also aims to combat stigma and discrimination against people who use drugs by promoting respectful and non-judgmental language and attitudes. June 26 is celebrated as the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking or World Drug Day to raise awareness about the devastating effects of drug abuse. This year's theme is "People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention." He expressed gratitude to the Secretary of J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages Jammu for endorsing such Nukkad Natak performances to raise awareness among the young generation about drug abuse.
The following artists performed in the Nukkad play: Vidya Bushan, Yogesh Raj, Sweety, Archana Rekhi, Vijay Kumar, Jyoti Devi, Sheetal Sharma. The Nukkad play was written and directed by Basant Viyogi. Towards the end of the program, Romesh Chander, the program coordinator, delivered the vote of thanks for the successful execution of the program.
