| Police produces challan against lawyer accused of fraud | | | Jammu, Sep 19 : Janipur police has produced challan against an advocate accusing him for fraudulently withdrawing an amount of Rs 2.16 lakh from the Registrar Judicial High Court Jammu, which was deposited by an Insurance Company as a compensation amount for an accident victim. The challan which was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu leveled serious allegations against the accused, which was serving as an advocate in the High Court at the time of the alleged fraud and subsequently appointed as Additional Sessions Judge Kargil after passing KCS examination. It is pertinent to mention here that the High Court on receiving a complaint against the accused had ordered an enquiry against him which had also held him responsible for the fraud. He was subsequently dismissed from the service by the High Court. As per the prosecution story the accused was engaged as counsel by one Narian Dutt, Attorney Holder of Babu Ram, in case relating to compensation of an accident case. The insurance company had deposited an amount of Rs 2.16 lakh before the Registrar Judicial High Court, Jammu. The accused advocate, however, allegedly identified someone else as Babu Ram before the Registrar Judicial and managed to get a payees cheque on the name of the claimant. It has been further alleged that the accused later opened an account in Vijay Bank on the name of Babu Ram by affixing the photograph of someone else and managed to withdraw the entire amount. As per the police story, Janipur police station registered an FIR against the accused following the receipt of a written complaint by post. The Challan revealed that the complaint was sent to the police station by the High Court of Jammu wherein it was stated that a written complaint was filed by one Babu Ram through Narayan Datt son of Chandu Ram resident of Katra against the then Additional Sessions Judge Kargil before the Chief Justice High Court Jammu alleging that the accused had fraudulently withdrawn an amount of Rs 2.16 lakh deposited with the Registrar Judicial Jammu in CIMA No 99/97. It was further mentioned in the letter that the Chief Justice ordered an inquiry in the matter through Registrar Vigilance of the High Court, which came to conclusion that Babu Ram never received the money. The police was thus directed to registered a case in this regard with further direction that the investigation shall be monitored by the High Court Jammu. |
