| HC grants bail to Mahant Prabu Da Nand Giri | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 21- Vacation Judge of J&K High Court Jammu Wing Justice Hakim Imtiyaz Hussain today granted bail to Mahant Prabu Da Nand Giri involved in much publicized allegedly grabbing land of Panjbakhtar Shivalya measuring 19 Kanal 18 Marla and 17 Marla situated in heart of the city. While granting the bail, the vacation Judge, after hearing Sr. Adv Sunil Sethi appearing for the petitioner and Additional Advocate General PC Sharma appearing for the State and others, observed that counsel for the petitioner stated that petitioner is in lock-up for more than two months and the circumstances justify grant of bail in favour of the petitioner. On the other hand Additional Advocate General appearing for the state filed his objections. He has, however, not pressed the objections during the arguments and submitted that the Court may pass appropriate orders in the matter. The Court observed that the petitioner is in custody since December 2, 2008 and is hence admitted to bail in FIR 96/2008 on his furnishing personal bond to the tune of Rs 25000 with two local sureties for the same amount subject to the satisfaction of Registrar Judicial of the High Court. It is worthwhile to mention here that police registered a case for allegedly grabbing land of Panjbakhtar Shivalaya and started investigation against Mahant and his accomplice, a property dealer, for allegedly grabbing prime land measuring 19 Kanal 8 Marla and 17 Marlas situated in the heart of city valued at crores of rupees. The police registered a case u/s 406/34 and started investigation after which the Mahant was arrested. The Mahant had filed a bail application which was rejected by the Third Additional Sessions Judge Jammu. Aggrieved of the order the Mahant filed a bail petition in the High Court which was today allowed and the vacation Judge granted bail to the Mahant. JNF
