| Gupta urges Governor to convene Assembly session early | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 21- Voicing his serious concern over the delay in holding the regular session of the State legislature, the leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, has urged upon the State Governor for early convening of the regular session of the Assembly so as to provide opportunity to the elected representatives to ventilate the agony of the people suffering on various accounts. He said the active functioning of the Legislature is the soul of any parliamentary democracy, as otherwise the elected Government would have little meanings. But it is about a year now that there has been no meaningful session of the Legislators and everything is going on adhoc basis, he added and recalled that the last budget session of the State Legislature was ended abruptly indicating new session would be held shortly. In a handout the BJP leader said that after this no regular session was held and it was only on July 7, the Ghulam Nabi Azad led Government had met with disgraceful end, and the Tenth Assembly was dissolved in a sad situation, he added and observed that it was unfortunate that it is about a month now that election results for the 11th Assembly were announced but so far no program has been announced for holding the regular session of the Legislature. Advocating for some early results by the new Government, Prof. Gupta said that the over fortnight functioning of the Congress-NC coalition is showing the signs of general feelings that the corpse is old one and there is only change of coffin. He pointed out that many Government employees especially those of public sector as also the Daily Wagers are without their salaries for months together and the trained and educated youths are getting restive without any job. More so, the employees are threatening for strikes for redressal of their problems including one that of getting implemented the recommendation of the Sixth Pay Commission. There are also so many other problems like that of rations, electricity, drinking water etc which needed an early attention, he asserted
