Act as frontline warriors
6/29/2023 11:02:02 PM

Dr Justice Dhananjaya Y. Chandrachud, the Chief Justice of India has urged judicial officers to act as frontline warriors in the pursuit of justice and meeting the expectations of the common man.
Dr Justice Chandrachud has consistently emphasized the importance of ensuring that every section of society, regardless of their socio-economic background, should have access to justice. It is the duty of judicial officers to uphold this principle and work tirelessly to bridge the gap between the privileged and the underprivileged. This means going beyond the call of duty and extending a helping hand to those who may face obstacles in accessing legal remedies.
The Chief Justice’s call to action serves as a reminder to judicial officers that they have a responsibility to understand the challenges faced by marginalized communities and provide them with the necessary support. This can be achieved by organizing legal aid camps, simplifying legal procedures, and ensuring that court processes are accessible to all, regardless of literacy or language barriers.
The foundation of the new High Court complex in Jammu and the launch of various IT initiatives under Dr Justice Chandrachud’s guidance are pioneering steps in bringing about much-needed reforms in the justice delivery system. These initiatives reflect a commitment to modernizing court infrastructure and adopting technology to improve efficiency, transparency, and accessibility.
Judicial officers must embrace these reforms and fully utilize the technological tools and resources made available to them. Embracing e-filing systems, digital case management, and virtual hearings can significantly reduce delays and ensure swift dispensation of justice. By adapting to these changes, judicial officers can alleviate the burden on the courts, expedite the resolution of cases, and ultimately restore public trust in the justice system.
Dr Justice Chandrachud has set an example by his proactive approach and sensitivity to the public’s expectations of the judiciary. Judicial officers must follow suit by actively engaging with the public, listening to their grievances, and taking necessary steps to address them.
The judiciary should be seen as an institution that is responsive to the needs of the common man and dedicated to upholding the principles of justice.
Moreover, judicial officers should encourage transparency and accountability in their own conduct. By maintaining integrity, impartiality, and professionalism, they can inspire public confidence in the judiciary and reaffirm its role as the guardian of justice.
