Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 1: Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, former minister and senior National Conference leader, extended his wishes for a safe and blissful pilgrimage to the revered Amarnathji cave shrine in the Kashmir Himalayas. He emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the recommendations of the Nitish Sengupta Commission to ensure the safety and security of devotees and facilitators.
In a statement, Sadhotra highlighted the paramount importance of the safety and security of pilgrims and all those involved in facilitating the pilgrimage through the mountainous and challenging terrain. He urged the administration and the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board to utilize all available resources to ensure a regulated and hassle-free yatra.
Sadhotra acknowledged the formation of the Nitish Sengupta panel following the tragic snow and storm catastrophe in 1996, which claimed numerous lives. He emphasized that the panel’s recommendations provided a pragmatic roadmap for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage with a focus on pilgrim safety. The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board was subsequently established by an Act of the legislature during the National Conference government in 2000 to manage the yatra.
Drawing from past experiences and lessons learned, Sadhotra expressed hope that all necessary safety protocols would be maintained in the best interests of the pilgrims and stakeholders.
He stressed the need for extra caution due to weather variations and the challenging terrain, requiring constant monitoring and facility improvements as necessary.
Sadhotra highlighted the Amarnathji pilgrimage as a shining example of Jammu and Kashmir’s inclusive heritage. It stands as a unique yatra performed by followers of one faith and facilitated by another, reflecting the deep bonds of brotherhood and amity in the land of Rishis, Sufis, and Saints. He wished for this year’s yatra to bring peace and tranquility.
Furthermore, Sadhotra urged the administration and the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board to ensure comfortable boarding, lodging, and logistical support for pilgrims from the advanced base camp in Jammu to the cave shrine along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes throughout the 62-day yatra.
He commended the people for their unwavering support to the pilgrims, both from within the country and abroad, in both the Kashmir and Jammu regions. Sadhotra recognized the hospitality and warmth of the people, making the spiritual journey of the yatris memorable.
He also appreciated the efforts of service providers and security personnel in ensuring a smooth pilgrimage and called for coordinated efforts among various agencies to streamline and make the yatra successful.
