Rupnagar, Punjab, July 3: A Capacity Building Programme for teachers was organized at Sri Dasmesh Academy in Anandpur Sahib, Rupnagar district, Punjab. The workshop focused on strategies for the continuous development of faculty, learners, and the organization, with an emphasis on fostering healthy relationships between educators and students.
Major General JS Ghumman, VSM (Retd), Director and Chairman of the School Management Committee, highlighted the need for teachers to modify their perspectives. He encouraged self-appraisal and self-motivation among faculty members to become effective educators and meet the expectations of the National Education Policy (NEP). He emphasized that enabling or disabling ourselves as teachers plays a crucial role in our success. The objective of educators should be to provide Competency Based Education, where students are trained to become lifelong learners equipped with knowledge, abilities, and skills. Faculty members were encouraged to develop lesson plans with clear general and specific objectives and equip themselves with various methodologies, aids, and learning styles to ensure the successful and fruitful learning of all students. Major General Ghumman also emphasized that teachers should possess qualities that learners aspire to have in order to become better human beings.
Colonel Rama Kant Pandey (Retd) shared effective ways to bring about positive changes in students’ behavior. Instead of resorting to punishment, educators were encouraged to understand the mental state of students and keep their own false ego in check when dealing with them. The focus was on developing a positive and accepting attitude towards adult students and addressing their important needs. The workshop also emphasized the importance of teachers demonstrating integrity, optimism, hope, determination, and compassion, as these traits greatly influence a child’s positive attitude and altruism. The session highlighted the significance of creating a fun, experiential, and innovative learning environment to ease tension among students in the classroom.
The training program involved healthy discussions, interactive learning, and the exchange of new ideas. Additionally, computer training was an important component, with Mr. Shubham Rathore sharing advanced computer handling skills with the teachers.
The Capacity Building Programme aimed to equip teachers with the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes to foster a conducive learning environment and effectively contribute to the holistic development of their students.
