| Governor, Farooq at Alaap festival | | Abhay's santoor recital leaves audience spell bound | | Early Times Report JAMMU, JANUARY 22- With Abhay Rustam Sopori, presenting a mesmerizing and scintillating Santoor recital at the Jammu's premier art-centre, Abhinav Theatre, this evening, the SaMaPa Alaap Festival reached its zenith Governor, Mr N N Vohra, who was the Chief Guest at the Musical Concert, lauded the efforts of popularizing classical music among the new generation with a hope that this will help them to peep into the rich cultural ethos of the country. The First Lady, Mrs Usha Vohra, former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and a large number of art-lovers were present on the occasion. Abhay presented a Bandish in Teentaal and Tarana in Ektaal, leaving the audience spell bound. The well known Tabla player, Sarit Das, accompanied him on Tabla and the audience had a beautiful blend of Santoor and Tabla. The programme concluded with the vocal recital of Ragini Rainu, who rendered a few Sufi compositions, composed by Santoor maestro Pandit Bhajan Sopori, in her melodious voice.
Signifying the mission of SaMaPa, Pandit Bhajan Sopori, reiterated his commitment of taking music to the masses and making them educated on their glorious cultural heritage. He expressed his deep sense of appreciation for the youth for developing a taste in classical music and describing it as a good omen for the future of Indian music. He observed that he was overwhelmed to find abundant talent in Jammu and Kashmir and said that he will encourage and guide the youth to participate in national and international events. Earlier, the Governor, the Lady Governor and the various dignitaries lit the traditional lamp to mark the start of the concert. The organizers felicitated Mr Vohra, Mrs Vohra and Dr Abdullah.
