Early Times Report

Hiranagar, July 3: Under the banner of MISSION LIFE, the NSS Unit CHESHTA of Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar proudly observed International Plastic Bag Free Day on July 3, 2023. This event aimed to address the global concern of plastic pollution, with a specific focus on the detrimental effects of plastic bags on the environment.
The day started with a motivational lecture delivered by Prof. Ajay Sharma, the NSS Program Officer. He educated the NSS volunteers about the non-degradability and toxicity of plastic and emphasized the need for strategies to reduce plastic waste in daily life. Prof. Manjot Singh screened informative clips on MISSION LIFE, raising awareness about the harmful impact of plastic bags and e-waste on the environment.
NSS Volunteers Samarti Sharma and Riya Sharma showcased reusable homemade cloth bags as alternatives to plastic bags. Anu Devi, a student of BSc Sem-2nd, demonstrated how to create beautiful paper bags from old newspapers, offering an eco-friendly alternative to single-use plastic bags.
In the conference hall of the college, an informative student seminar took place. NSS volunteers presented their views on the consequences of plastic bag usage and the importance of adopting eco-friendly practices for a plastic-free future. They encouraged the audience to embrace the principles of REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE in their daily lives and adopt sustainable practices for environmental protection.
A pledge-taking ceremony was held, where individuals committed to reducing their reliance on plastic bags and promoting responsible waste management.
Dr. Pragya Khanna, the Principal of the college, expressed her gratitude towards the volunteers and NSS team for their active participation. She highlighted the significance of collective action in combating plastic pollution and urged everyone to take the pledge and work together to create a cleaner and greener future.
The proceedings of the awareness program were conducted by NSS Volunteer Ms. Shubham Sharma, while Dr. Chinky Sangral delivered the formal vote of thanks.
