DC reviews district road safety measures

UDHAMPUR, July 3: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today convened a meeting of officers of various departments here in Mini Conference Hall DC Office Complex to review the District road safety measures in the district.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr Vinod Kumar; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joginder Singh Jasrotia; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Rafiq Ahmed Jaral and Executive Engineers PWD, PMGSY besides district officers of various departments attended the meeting.
Threadbare discussions were held on various aspects which include enforcement of traffic rules, Conducting Road safety audit of all the roads of the district, Raising awareness about road safety, Implementation of ribbon development Act, Strict implementation of provisions of motor vehicle Act, 2019, Road safety funds, Creation of by laws for parking of vehicles, Identification of hungry routes for grant or new permit, Display of route and rate list on the commercial vehicle, minimising road accidents, Maintenance of roads, Traffic Management System, traffic decongestion, Black spot identification and remedial measures, Installation of signages and dividers in various busy routes etc discussed in detail.
Necessary directions were issued to the concerned to organise road safety awareness camps /programmes in the district in coordination with other stakeholders. He asked the concerned to organise awareness programs in schools/ colleges besides hosting counselling cum orientation programs for drivers and conductors.
The Executive Officer MC was directed to conduct awareness through announcements in Udhampur town.
The DC directed the concerned to ensure installation of the divider at Gole mela within the given timeline. He directed the concerned agencies to get a third party audit of all the roads.
Executive Engineers PWD and PMGSY were directed to ensure regular maintenance of the roads to avoid road accidents.
They were asked to identify the black spots and take corrective measures by fixing sign boards and installing crash barriers.
Traffic police was asked to regulate traffic & reduce traffic jams and overloading in the district with the help of local police for the convenience of the general public. The CMO was directed to organize a free eye testing camp every month.
