Saying that she also expressed her dismay over the delay caused in payments of the arrears of cash relief to quake victims in Baramulla and Kupwara district, Mehbooba said that Sonia Gandhi assured her to take up the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ensure disbursement of arrears of cash relief to quake victims before winter dawns in Kashmir. The arrears of the second installment of cash relief, according to Mehbooba, has not disbursed as yet, while as hundreds of affected families are suffering for the want of shelter and essential commodities in quake hit Baramulla and Kupwara districts.
Mehbooba also claimed to have taken up the issue of the plight of 78 families affected by 2004 snowstorm in Voltango Nar area in South Kashmir, who have not been paid second installment of cash relief of Rs50,000. Sonia Gandhi has, according to Mehbooba, assured her to take up the issue with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and get the same disbursed to Valtango Nar victims at the earliest.
During the course of deliberation, Mehbooba also expressed her support for the Manmohan-Musharaff declaration at Havana and pledge of two leaders to eliminate violence from the soil of both the countries in all its forms and manifestation. The revival of peace process, according to Mehbooba, would help to rebuild bonds of mutual trust and bilateral cooperation between India and Pakistan for an amicable settlement of Kashmir issue.
