| Doda inhabitants rue unscheduled power cuts | | | ShariqNabi Doda, Jan 22-Dejected over the irregular power curtailment schedule, a deputation of almost hundred senior citizens led by Haji Lasa Balwan, Naib Imam Jamia Masjid Doda call on the Deputy Commissioner Sharief-ud-Din to apprise him about the problems facing the people especially the students’ community. Complaining about the biased schedule, a deputation member said that it is the limit of injustice that even during the power supply timing the curtailment is being made on the name of faults or due to some mechanical defects. The members are complaining that the employees of Power Development Department (PDD) had been provided with special lines irrespective of their rank in the department. They further said that when people made complaints against the department, the PDD employees start harassing them on the name of load shedding or find other means to harass general masses also. Mohammed Iqbal Balwan, a deputation member said that DC has assured them for regular power supply and has ordered the department for the same. He said the people have become used to hear that very soon the power supply will be restored but it seems a mere joke and nothing else. Moreover students are preparing for their exams and it becomes very difficult for them to pursue their studies in view of the frequent power shut down. People also complained that special curtailment schedule was made for former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad’s Bhaderwah constituency where hardly six or seven hours power is curtailed. Sayeed Ahmed Natnoo, a KAS aspirant said that he has become fed up with the current power curtailment schedule as most of the time power remains off. It appears that we are living in early age and have to be dependent on candles, lighting gas or other modes of lighting. Iqbal Sofi, a shopkeeper said that during day time if power is curtailed it hardly matters but during night time when even street lights are off it becomes dangerous being the militancy infested area as there is every possibility that taking the advantage of darkness the militants may strike anywhere and on anyone. Meanwhile people also highlighted the grievances before Dr Gurdeep Singh, Deputy Director Health who visited the District Hospital during a surprise visit and have demanded sanctioning of ECG, CT scan machines etc
