JAMMU, JAN 22: As many as 3,094 new anganwari centres will be set up in Jammu and Kashmir. This was stated at a review meeting of the Social Welfare Department chaired by the Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah, here this evening. The Government of India conveyed sanction for opening of 3,094 anganwari centres, along with 3,094 anganwari workers and equal number of helpers, besides 124 supervisors under ICDS scheme to the State Government today. Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather, Political Advisor to Chief Minister, Mr. Devender Singh Rana, Chief Secretary, Mr. S. S. Kapur, Financial Commissioner, Planning and Development, Mr. S. L. Bhat, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Mr. Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, Mr. R. K. Jerath, Commissioner/Secretary, Finance, Mr. B. B. Vyas and senior officers of the department participated in the meeting. Mr. Abdullah, while taking detailed scheme-wise review of the department, said that the local community, especially mothers, should be actively involved so that the benefits of ICDS scheme could be maximised. He also called for strict monitoring of the implementation of all the schemes so that the benefit reaches to people for which these have been formulated. Referring to the provision of pre-matric scholarships being provided by the department, the Chief Minister said that at least 50 per cent attendance should be made mandatory for the students studying from 1st to 5th primary so that they attend the schools and receive education regularly which is the prime objective of providing this incentive. Similarly, Mr. Abdullah also laid emphasis on a strong forward linkage of the women receiving vocational training at the social welfare centres so that their empowerment is ensured and the skill they have obtained does not go waste.
