| SLUB organizes farmer’s awareness camp | | | Early Times Report Jammu, jan 23: The J&K State Land Use Board (SLUB) of Directorate of Agriculture organized ‘Farmers Awareness Camp’s at village Tender in Udhampur District, kanotha in Dada District, Batote and Chanderkote in Ramban District The other day. The main objective of the camps was to aware the farmers about the conservation of land resources which are depleting fast due to increase in population, and the possible factors contributing towards soil and water erosion as a result of which land becomes waste land . The other possible harmful effects of soil and water erosion were also discussed in the camps. As per press release the various soil and water conservation practices such as land leveling, mulching, mixed cropping, strip cropping, bounding, terracing, gully plugging, nalla bank erosion control were discussed in the camps, also various water harvesting techniques such as construction of water harvesting tanks, rain water harvesting, organic manuring, green manuring were discussed in the camp. Farmers were also advised not to sell their fertile for agriculture land, and not to put these lands to non-agriculture use and maintain its fertility for sustainable agriculture production. They should put their land according to its capacity and capability. They should put the high sloppy land under plantation such social forestry, sericulture, horticulture. Gras-land management was also discussed, open grazing was discourged, practice of rotational grazing and stall feeding was advocated. Stress was given to reclaim the Culturable waste land and put it under cultivation or plantation.
