| Gender sensitization programme at MIER College of Education” | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 23-Shanti Gupta Centre for Women Studies at the MIER College of Education successfully organized a four day gender sensitization program for the students of B. Ed, PGDCA and B. Ed Special Education (MR) in a phased manner. Dr. Arun K. Gupta Chairman, MIER being the mentor for the program congratulated the Centre for the success of the program and blessed the students for a successful future. He asked them to transfer this knowledge to their respective target groups after completion of their courses. Dr Renu Gupta, Director of the Centre, while inaugurating the programme highlighted the main objectives of the programme and explained that the centre has a responsibility of familiarizing the participants with various perspectives concerned with women studies, to create awareness on gender equality and gender discrimination, to familiarize the participants with crime and violence against women, to create awareness among the participants about the rights of women, constitutional and legal remedies for attaining their rights and helping the participants to find ways of empowering themselves. The faculty members of MIER, Dr. Ira Bhan, Annie Kaul, Angela Gadroo and Usha Chunni interacted with the groups of 50 students each on significant issues which were dealt with skillfully through multi-media presentations by all the resource persons. The group comprised of students both male and female from all the professional courses of the college namely B. Ed, PGDCA and B. Ed Special Education (MR). The students were also asked to enact role-plays and skits which made these interactions more relevant and effective. The effectiveness of the programme was later assessed and was rated by the participants as useful and informative.
