DC inaugurates Kargil War Heroes District Level Cricket Tournament

SAMBA, July 15: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Samba, Abhishek Sharma on Saturday inaugurated the Kargil War Heroes District Level Cricket Tournament with a Grand Opening ceremony in Shubham Khajuria Cricket Academy (SKCA) Sports Stadium 17 Miles, Tehsil Vijaypur.
The nine-day tournament has been organized by Vahin Cricket Club as a tribute to the Kargil Wars Heroes. The best performers of the tournament will be shortlisted for the Jammu Division level team which will play in the Inter-Division Super Sixteen Cricket Tournament.
A large gathering attended the opening ceremony of the tournament including locals, PRIs and government functionaries etc.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Samba stated that organizing such tournaments is an excellent way to promote sports and to keep the youth away from the evil of drug abuse. He further emphasized that these endeavors are imperative to inspire more and more youth to take up sports as a career option.
Teams from all Blocks of the district are participating in the tournament and the inaugural match was played between team Vijaypur and team Samba. The Samba 11 team defeated the Vijaypur team in the first match.
Abhishek Sharma also interacted with the players and appreciated them for taking part in sports activities. He also hailed Vahin Cricket Club for dedicating the event to Kargil war heroes and providing such opportunities to the local youth.
He said the government has taken keen interest to provide the best sports facilities to the youth of Jammu & Kashmir and several playgrounds have been developed in at least every Panchayat the DC assured that said more measures will be taken to involve the youth in sports activities so that they are trained to play professionally not only for the leisure time.
The chief guest, Abhishek Sharma was accompanied by Sarpanch Samba, Supwal, Aatish by Vahin cricket association District, Samba, under whose supervision the Tournament was conducted.
