Reasi police cracks down on illicit liquor, narcotics smuggling; arrests made

REASI, July 15: Reasi Police has intensified its efforts to combat the illegal trade of liquor and narcotics, aiming to eradicate drug abuse in the district. In a recent operation, a Swift Dizre car was intercepted during a routine naka duty at Sulla Reasi. The driver attempted to flee but was apprehended by the police. Upon searching the vehicle, a polythene bag containing approximately 2.17 grams of a substance similar to Chitta, a heroin-like drug, was discovered in the driver's pocket. The suspect, identified as Vishal, was arrested, and an FIR (No. 148/2023) was lodged against him under the NDPS Act. In another incident at the New Bus Stand in Katra, a person named Manik Dogra was caught attempting to escape from the police. A search revealed the possession of around 4 grams of a substance resembling heroin. Manik, a resident of W.No. 6, Katra, was promptly apprehended, and a case (FIR No. 219/2023) was registered against him under the NDPS Act. Furthermore, during a naka checking at PCP Balini, a Honda City car was stopped, and the driver, Balvinder Singh, along with a passenger named Vinod Kumar, was found to be carrying 30 bottles of liquor. The police confiscated the liquor, and a case (FIR No. 223/2023) was filed against them under the Excise Act and IPC Section 188. In yet another incident, a person named Raju Bhatia was arrested by the Searly Police Party during a checking operation. Raju was found in possession of 27 quarters of JK Special Desi Whisky while walking from Panthal to Katra. A case (FIR No. 224/2023) was registered against him under IPC Section 188. Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Amit Gupta - JKPS, emphasized the multi-faceted strategy employed by the Reasi Police to combat drug abuse and illicit liquor trade. The police are determined to eradicate this menace from society and leave no stone unturned in their efforts.
