| Gupta terms Congress- NC alliance as ‘marriage of convenience’ | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 23- Terming the new Congress- NC coalition as another ‘marriage of convenience between the two’, the BJP Legislators Party leader, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, feared that this alliance of jilted lovers may prove worse than even the previous gang up of Congress, PDP and those of others who ruled the roost for over five and half years this troubled State of Jammu and Kashmir leaving behind so many scars of pains and sufferings to the people. Addressing a gathering of party activists at Purkhu, about 20 Kms from here, Prof. Gupta recalled that the previous alliance had framed their Common Minimum Programme of their coalition within 20 days but this new alliance is yet having no direction to move and work. It is yet not clear that when the State Assembly would meet with what agenda, whether to have Vote on Account or full fledged Budget for the next fiscal year. Everything is shrouded in uncertainty which is adding to the agonies of the people who were promised moon, both by the leaders of the Congress and those of the National Conference, he added and observed that the latest statement of the National Conference leader, Dr. Farooq Abdullah contrary to earlier impression that Congress and NC would jointly contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, is still to be decided by his party, indicates what meets the eye. The BJP leader said that the people of this State have quite bitter experiences of the alliance of these two parties and it was their Coalition when the armed militancy had erupted in 1989, as they were resorting to various injustices resulting in all round resentment of which Pakistan took the advantage to launch a proxy war in this State against India and this fire is still smoldering, he added.. He assailed the Coalition for not withdrawing of PSA against Sant Dinesh Bharti while fifteen ultras involved in anti-India activities were set free by revoking PSA against them. Prof. Gupta also referred to various other problems facing the people including unemployment amongst the youths and said that much hopes were raised during the electioneering by the leaders of these two parties but now they have backtracking on one pretext or the other. But this was bound to recoil upon them; he added and warned the Coalition leaders that any more delay would have serious repercussions. He asked the party activists to prepare for future tests after showing good results at the recent battle of hustings for the State Assembly.
