23 tube-wells to come up in 100 days

JAMMU, JANUARY 23- Acting on Chief Ministers instructions to set 100 days targets for completion of development works, the PHE department is all set to commission 23 more tube wells in Jammu East and West Jammu to augment drinking water supply in the Jammu city. On commissioning of these tube wells within the targeted period of 100 days, the water availability in the city will enhance to 13.60 MGD against the availability of existing 3.90 MGD, being received from 16 tube wells already functional in these two parts of the Jammu city.
Stating this here today in a meeting of the officers of ERA and engineers of PHE, the Minister for PHE Irrigation & Flood Control, Mr Taj Mohi-ud-Din said that an amount of Rs 30.50 crore have been earmarked to construct 52 tube wells in Jammu east and Jammu west, out of which 18 tube wells would be completed within next 100 days. He said the areas to be benefited by these tube wells include Sainik Colony, Sanjay Nagar, Adarsh Enclave, Deep Nagar, Apna Vihar, Rehari Park , Kunjwani, Science College,Indira Vihar,Muthi,Roop Nagar and Ban-Talab.
In addition, it is also proposed to complete three more over head tanks of 1.50 lakh gallons of water capacity each in different localities of Shastrinagar, Jammu at a cost of Rs 11.87 crore, the Minister added.
He said four more over head tanks of 1 lakh gallons capacity would also be completed within 100 days near Relief Commissioner's Office, Resham Ghar, Puran Nagar and JDA Park Indira Vihar. An amount of Rs 7.84 crore would be incurred for construction of these over head tanks, the Minister added.
The PHE department has also embarked upon on programme to replace the rising main pipes by laying of new rising mains in the city to further improve drinking water supply system in Jammu city. In this connection, the existing using main pipes have been replaced by 100 MM to 600 dia at a cost of Rs 23.25 crores. These pipes have covered a length of 27 kms in phase I and 40 kms in phase-II in Jammu city.
Among others, the Chief Engineer, PHE, Mr. V. K. Abrol, Chief Engineer, ERA, Mr. Pankaj Jain, Director, ERA, Mrs. Veena Gupta and other senior officers and engineers were also present on the occasion.
