Police busts drug smuggling gang in Katra, 300 grams of Ganja seized

JAMMU, July 24: In a significant development in the ongoing fight against drug abuse, the Katra Police successfully apprehended a drug smuggler and seized 300 grams of a substance resembling Ganja during a checking and frisking operation at Nangal Road, Katra. The suspect, identified as Gulzar Ahmed, son of Satar Mohd, and a resident of Sudhmahadev, Chenani, attempted to flee upon spotting the police party but was swiftly captured.
The incident occurred under the leadership of Inspector Nishant Gupta, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Katra, with the supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Surinder Singh-JKPS, and overall guidance from Superintendent of Police (SP) Katra, Vipin Chandran-JKPS.
A case (FIR No 234/2023) has been registered at Police Station Katra under Section 8/20 of the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, and the investigation is currently underway. The authorities are determined to trace the links of the accused to unearth the entire network involved in this illicit trade.
SSP Reasi, Amit Gupta-JKPS, emphasized that the Reasi Police are steadfast in their commitment to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and illicit liquor smuggling from the region. He urged people from all walks of life to cooperate with the police and contribute to strengthening the anti-drug drive in the district. Any information regarding such illegal activities can be shared on the district police anti-drug helpline number 9070907017, where the identity of the informants will be kept confidential.
The police's relentless efforts to combat drug trafficking and related crimes are commendable as they strive to create a drug-free and safer environment in the holy town of Katra. Citizens are encouraged to play an active role in supporting law enforcement to build a drug-resistant community.
