| Slathia proposes fresh survey to identify BPL families | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, January 24- The Minister for Industries and Commerce, Labour and Employment, Mr. Surjit Singh Slathia today distributed cheques amounting to Rs. 9 lakh under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) amongst 62 beneficiaries of Vijaypur block at a function held at Vijaypur. He also distributed job cards amongst 100 beneficiaries under NREGA and provided two tri-cycles to handicapped persons. Addressing a large gathering of people at Vijaypur, the Minister said that government was committed to uplift the living conditions of rural people and for this purpose a number of development and welfare schemes have been launched. He asked them to come forward and take the benefits of these schemes. Slathia maintained that NREGA scheme envisages job guarantee for rural jobless people and all such families should get themselves registered with the concerned BDOs who would issue job cards to them and call for the employment within a prescribed period. As regards benefits under Indira Awas Yojana (IAY), the Minister said that a fresh survey to identify the BPL families would be carried out soon and all deserving families would be covered under this scheme to provide shelter to houseless families and upgradation of existing structures. He said that government has reports that so many families were left out in the previous BPL survey list and could not avail the benefits of the yojana, the Minister added.
Referring to the unemployment problem, Mr. Slathia clarified that it was a global phenomenon and to provide jobs to everyone was impossible for the government. He suggested the unemployed youth to avail the benefits under self-employment schemes where under the government has introduced attractive incentives in the form of subsidy and tax exemptions etc. He, however, said that due share of government jobs would be managed for the youth of the area.
