Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 26: American Oncology Institute (AOI) in Jammu achieves a remarkable feat by successfully treating a massive retroperitoneal sarcoma in a 59-year-old male. The surgical team, led by Dr. Sujeet Bhat and Dr. Avinash Rajra, along with the anaesthesia team under Dr. Atul Sharma and Dr. Khurram Malik, performed a laparotomy and surgical excision of a 30x20x10 cm retroperitoneal mass.
The patient, hailing from the remote area of Bhaderwah, sought medical help at AOI Jammu after experiencing persistent abdominal distention for several months. Previous evaluations at other centers had not yielded a conclusive diagnosis, leading the patient to AOI Jammu for further evaluation and treatment. Extensive investigations revealed a massive tumor within the abdominal cavity, spanning from the liver to the urinary bladder, occupying over half of the available space. Following two cycles of chemotherapy, the patient was prepared for surgery.
Dr. Sujeet Bhat, Consultant Surgical Oncology, highlighted the challenges posed by the tumor's immense size and its adherence to the intestines and major blood vessels in the abdomen. Nevertheless, the surgical team executed a successful excision with minimal blood loss. After the procedure, the patient recovered well and was discharged after a five-day hospital stay.
Expressing satisfaction with the outcome, Dr. Neeraj Bishnoi, Regional COO, AOI, emphasized the importance of a coordinated effort from various medical disciplines in managing complex cases like this. AOI's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technologies and multidisciplinary expertise ensures the best possible outcomes for patients facing challenging conditions.
American Oncology Institute (AOI) operates a full-fledged facility at Acharya Shri Chander College of Medical Sciences, Sidhra (ASCOMS) Jammu. Founded by leading oncologists at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre in the US, AOI has expanded its network of super-specialty cancer hospitals in India and South Asia. The state-of-the-art hospital at ASCOMS Jammu provides comprehensive cancer treatment services, including Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology, and Nuclear Medicine for patients of all age groups.
AOI's multidisciplinary approach and commitment to delivering world-class healthcare with cutting-edge technology have made it a leading center for cancer treatment in the Jammu & Kashmir region. The institute continues to provide hope and healing to patients battling cancer, reaffirming its dedication to excellence in cancer care.
