7/26/2023 10:48:31 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 26: The practical examinations for the M.Sc. Environment Sciences students of the first batch, under the Regional Centre Jammu, have successfully concluded at the IGNOU Learner Support Centre located at Govt. College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu.
The M.Sc. in Environmental Sciences programme was launched by IGNOU in the January 2021 session. Initially, this program was not available under the Regional Centre Jammu due to the lack of support services in the region, resulting in students enrolling themselves under other distant Regional Centres like Srinagar and Chandigarh. However, with dedicated efforts from the management of the Regional Centre Jammu and the cooperation of the management at Govt. College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu, the programme was recently activated in the region at LSC 12123.
There was a considerable demand for this programme across the region, and the Master of Science in Environmental Science (MSCENV) aims to produce skilled professionals capable of addressing environmental and developmental challenges while striving for sustainability. The programme provides insights into socio-economic factors contributing to pollution and degradation of the natural environment and their impacts on human beings, ecosystems, and other organisms. Students are equipped to analyze and assess environmental systems, propose sustainable solutions, and contribute to the development of environmental policies and strategies.
Regional Director Dr. Sandeep Gupta mentioned that in the recently concluded January 2023 admission session, 364 learners enrolled for the programme under the Regional Centre Jammu. Additionally, over 300 learners from other Regional Centres requested to change their Regional Centre to Jammu, and all of them were provided with No Objection Certificates (NOCs) promptly, getting attached to LSC 12123 for support services.
The practical concluding ceremony was graced by the presence of Regional Director Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Learner Support Centre Coordinator Dr. Abdul Majeeb, and other staff members. The students expressed their appreciation for the efforts made by the Regional Centre Jammu and LSC in activating the programme and conducting practical counseling sessions and examinations. This initiative has saved students from the need to travel to other states for practical assessments, making it more accessible and convenient for them.
